My Story
My journey into wine started with simply enjoying a glass of wine and an increasing curiosity about where it came from and the thrill of trying new varieties and styles.
There is something timeless about wine. It helps us unwind after a long day, brings people together around the table, and turns simple moments into something a little more special. Whether it’s a glass shared with friends, a bottle opened with family, at dinner, a toast to celebrate life’s milestones.
Wine has travelled across the centuries, countries, and cultures. Woven into the enjoyable rituals that bring people together. There’s a reason it has stood the test of time. Quite simply, wine is wonderful, and that is why I am so passionate about it.
What began as a simple interest, spending time trying to decipher wine labels in the supermarket, quickly became a genuine passion. Not just for drinking wine, but for discovering it. Exploring different grape varieties, styles, regions and countries really is like exploring the world one glass at a time.
The more I learned, the more confident I became in choosing wine and I realised just how vast and exciting the wine world truly is. There are so many outstanding wines waiting to be drunk, each with its own story, character, and made by winemakers with heart and passion. There is a huge joy in discovering them.
Along the way, I’ve developed my knowledge through formal study, achieving the WSET (Wine and Spirit Educational Trust) Level 3 Award in Wines. But what matters most to me isn’t the certificates, but the experience of enjoying and sharing remarkable wine with people and helping them feel confident exploring it for themselves.
That’s what inspired The Wine Gallery.
A space where wine feels exciting rather than intimidating. Where you can explore different styles and regions, discover new favourites, and deepen your appreciation in a relaxed, welcoming setting. No pretence, no pressure.

Its founder, Ross Thomson, holds the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines, a globally recognised advanced qualification awarded by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, one of the world’s most respected wine education bodies.
Level 3 is a demanding, professional-level certification designed for those working within the wine industry or serious enthusiasts seeking an expert understanding of wine. The qualification requires detailed knowledge of global wine regions, grape varieties, production methods, climate and terroir, maturation techniques and wine law.
Assessment includes rigorous written examinations and blind tasting analysis under formal exam conditions, requiring not only theoretical knowledge but the ability to apply that knowledge with accuracy and precision.
In practical terms, this means every tasting hosted by The Wine Gallery is underpinned by genuine expertise. Each wine is presented with clarity, confidence and context, explaining not only what is in the glass, but why it tastes the way it does.
